Social/Beautification Committee

The Social/Beautification Committee was formed in February 2010 and serves the Chestnut Oaks community by bringing everyone together through events and social awareness.

Mission Statement

Develop, plan and initiate social events, coordinate beautification efforts, and undertake projects and activities that will enhance and benefit the Chestnut Oaks community.

Goals

  • Foster a cohesive community by organizing fun, interesting events for the entire community so neighbors can meet and socialize.
  • Enhance community appearance and beauty.
  • Grow and strengthen pride in our community and the sense of belonging by welcoming all residents

Christmas Tree Lighting 2010

Stallings Chestnut Oaks Community came out on a cold day to launch the first lighting of the development's huge pine tree. At dusk all gathered round for a blessing and caroling. Then off to the clubhouse for candy canes, cookies, hot cider, and storytelling from our special guest, Mrs. Claus! Thank you to our helpful angels for making this fun and special event happen: David, Ben, Randy, Gina, the Leo family, Kira and Brock, Robin, and Poppyseeds Bagels for the assortment of big yummy cookies! Check out photos of the event here!

First Annual National Night Out Celebrated at Chestnut Oaks

On August 3rd Chestnut Oaks participated in National Night Out. At least 80 residents attended the covered dish event targeted at bringing positive police-community relations to our neighborhood. Stallings Police Department, Mayor Lynda Paxton, Union County Sheriff's Department, and Stallings Fire Department, all participated with Dan Starks demonstrating self defense tips. TV News 36 was there filming the many children and neighbors enjoying great food and getting to know each other a bit better.

We sent a powerful message in support of those whose jobs it is to protect and serve -- we as a community value you. When we know who our neighbors are, we then can identify who does not belong and take needed action to call the authorities for help. This was the first step for us in hosting this event so that the police and fire departments know who we are and that we are families who matter.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate, plan/organize, document in the UC Weekly, and be with all of you. Thank you again to all those who worked to make this happen, namely Catherine Goodrich and the Neighborhood Watch Committee, Social Beautification Committee members Deb Haney (you grill an awesome hot dog!), Gina Gutierrez (who ran home 3 times during the night to fill supplies needed), Kira Brice (pitching in for clean up) and others who got the word out to bring us together during this time. Looking forward to many more.
